Shayla Steele

She traveled with EPIC to Costa Rica in the spring of '09 on her first mission trip. She will travel there with an organization in the Lower 48 called Reign Ministries.  While there she will be working in schools, orphanages, jails, and other places in order to spread the message of Christ's love! Through God’s strength, Becky is excited to be working in a position to help hungry kids in Anchorage who are in poverty or at-risk. With a background in administration, business ownership (including a restaurant) and public service, she believes God has prepared her for working as the Chief Operating Officer of The Children’s Lunchbox, a program of Bean’s Café. The Children’s Lunchbox (TCL) feeds kids in safe community environments such as Camp Fire USA Alaska Council, Boys & Girls Clubs, Denali Family Services, Crossroads and AVAIL. TCL has two main programs; 1) Prepared Meals Program where they prepare and deliver cold meals to their safe community sites, and 2) their “Just a Little Extra” Weekend Food Program for elementary students during the school year. The weekend food program was completely funded with private donations last year! The philosophy for growth is to have a strong staff (which they do) and increase food production for hungry kids through the assistance of volunteers.
